About REMIT

In 2011, the European Commission adopted the Regulation on Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (short: REMIT), which introduced a new concept of the regulation of the European electricity and gas market in order to increase its transparency and integrity. The regulation is carried out by the European Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (short: ACER). Due to a high number of market participants who are obliged to report records of transactions, ACER has approved eligible third-party Registered Reporting Mechanisms (RRMs) to ensure the uniform reporting. RRM is thus a function performed by a legal entity, registered and approved by ACER.

Pursuant to Article 8 of the REMIT regulation, the European Commission adopted an implementing act on 17 December 2014, which specifies the obligations set out in the regulation.

In May 2024, the new Regulation amending Regulations (EU) No 1227/2011 and (EU) 2019/942 as regards improving the Union’s protection against market manipulation on the wholesale energy market (short: REMIT II) came into force.

ACER, in connection to REMIT II, also published an open letter  on the implications of the revision of Regulation (EU) No 1227/2011 on REMIT data reporting aspects and notification obligations.

Who is obligated to report?
